Neighbourly Friendship

Martin and I were very proud to have known you Debbie as a friend and a neighbour. Since we all moved into Gerway Close over 2 years ago we shared many fun evenings together. We had planning meetings with the other neighbours when we organised the lighting of a Close Christmas Tree. We went to quizzes and you kindly kept the score at one Martin organised. But most memorable for us was the organisation of the Car Rally for the Ottery St Mary Twinning Association. You kept us to task throughout and were instrumental in drawing up the final route map with the appropriate questions and checking the participants’ answers as they arrived back. Somehow East Hill often featured in our search for a route and so it became a standard joke that it seemed to appear no matter which way we went.  So every time we look out from our house towards East Hill we will always think of you Debbie.
We remember the night of the concert in the Parish Church in Ottery in November 2018 to celebrate the hundreth anniversary of the end of the First World War, when you and Jeff kindly offered to be ushers. You had just come back from the doctor’s and told us you had been diagnosed with gallstones. Sadly unbeknown to us all that was the beginning of your long journey and fight against pancreatic cancer. You were amazingly courageous and positive throughout the entire months ahead. You could always, always find a smile. Your bravery and continued good nature was and will be a continual inspiration to us all.
Rest in peace and thanks for the blueberry muffins. Marjorie & Martin xxx
